Boletus Edulis is what we commonly call a "porcino" (porcini mushroom).

The most interesting story linked to this mushroom comes from Scandinavia, where it is called Karl Johan.

Traditional folklore in these lands considered mushrooms dangerous and linked to esoteric rites, as they were potentially toxic. For example, Scandinavian witches used mushrooms to create "Troldsmør," or "Troll butter," to spread on the doorframes of people they wanted to take revenge on.

Scandinavians began to appreciate this mushroom again thanks to King Karl XIV Johan, of French origin, who reintroduced it into culinary use during his reign (1818-1844).

Today the mushroom bears the name of this king.
